Pond Hockey Goal Plans

Equipment

  • 1 Circular Saw
  • 1 Power drill

Materials

Materials

  • 9 2" Deck Wood Screws
  • 24-30 3.5" Deck Wood Screws
  • 3 8' 2×6" Pressure Treated Lumber
  • 1 3/4" 12"x6' Square Unfinished Pine Board Can use 1/2" plywood cut to this size too, but this was cheaper.

Instructions

STEP 1. CUT WOOD

  • Cut list for frame:
    1 – 72" 2×6 board
    2 – 24" 2×6 board
    2 – 4" 2×6 board pieces
    Cut list for Goalie Box
    2 – 46" 2×6 boards
    3 – 8.5" 2×6 boards

STEP 2. BUILD FRAME

  • Use 72" 2×6 board & attach a 24" 2×6 board to each end using 3.5" screws.
Reinforce each corner with 4" 2×6 board piece using 3.5" screws.
Attach the "crossbar" (3/4" 12"x6' Square Unfinished Pine Board) across the top of the open end of the goal frame. Drill pilot holes if using a prefab board for the crossbar to prevent splitting. Use 2" screws here.
    Build Frame

STEP 2. BUILD GOALIE BOX

  • Take the two 46" 2×6 boards & insert three 8.5" 2×6 boards in-between to create a reinforced box

STEP 3: ATTACH GOALIE BOX TO CROSSBAR

  • Center your "goalie" on the crossbar, ~12" from inside post of frame.
Use 2" screws to attach top of the crossbar into the frame. Drill pilot holes if using a prefab board for the crossbar to prevent splitting.

Tips for Building Pond Hockey Goal

  1. Use pre-cut board for crossbar – you can use plywood, but will need to cut to size.
  2. Check boards for straightness – I didn’t check one board and it was VERY crooked so I had to redo with a different board. You want your goal flat on the ice.
  3. Use Pressure Treaded Lumber – This is an outdoor goal so use pressure treaded to prevent rotting.

Now Let’s Play Hockey!
