How to Make an Easy, Delicious Breakfast Sandwich

Like many of you, I eat breakfast more often when working from home. After trying everything from dry cereal to smoothies, I quickly ran out of fresh ideas. I even started the bad habit of going to McDonald’s weekly for my favorite, bacon, egg and cheese biscuit. Something had to change, and these McTrips gave me an idea; why not make my own breakfast sandwich? It’s not rocket science and you have probably made a breakfast sandwich of your own. But, this one is super easy and very tasty. So let’s kick your dry cereal to the curb and go Full Dad Mode with how to make an easy breakfast sandwich!

Course Breakfast
Cuisine American

Equipment

  • Cooking Pan for Eggs
  • Baking Sheet for toasting English Muffins
  • Grill for Sausage (or fry pan for if using stovetop)
  • Tin Foil (if grilling meat)

Ingredients

  • 1 chub Jimmy Dean Hot Breakfast Sausage
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 English Muffins Bays are the best!
  • 2 tabs butter
  • 3 slices American Cheese
  • 1 dash salt
  • 1 dash pepper
  • 1 dash garlic powder
  • 1 dash milk

Instructions

Grill Sausage

  • Preheat grill to med-hi
  • Cut sausage chub into 10 round pieces (9 cuts) or use pre-cut patties
  • Place sausage on piece of tin foil sprayed with cooking spray. Or use grill top griddle if you have one
  • Place foil and sausage on grill, turning after ~5-7min. Cook to 160° internal temp
  • Set aside on paper towels on a plate to soak up extra grease

Scramble Eggs

  • Heat fry pan on medium with a tab of butter to grease the pan
  • Combine eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic in a bowl. Whisk thoroughly. Add red pepper flakes for extra kick.
  • Put eggs in pan, add 1 piece of American Cheese (ripped into small pieces)
  • Cook eggs ~2-4 minutes on each side. Cook them like an omelet, flipping once for easy sandwich stacking.

Notes

Timing: None of this takes that long, the longest of which is cooking the sausage. Once sausage is almost done I cook the eggs and toast the English Muffins at the same time.
For an even faster option: Reheat leftover bacon or sausage to cut cooking time in half.

Breakfast Sandwich Tips

  1. Seasoning – Breakfast sandwiches are not hard to make, but what takes then from “meh” to “wow” is seasoning. A little garlic powder, red pepper flakes & cheese take your eggs up a notch in flavor.
  2. Good Bread – I discovered Bays English Muffins in the Dairy department of the Grocery Store. These are amazing, toast well and can last for weeks in the refrigerator.
  3. Weekend Leftovers = Weekday Timesaver. We make bacon or sausage every weekend for a family breakfast and always have leftover meat. Simply reheat some during the weekday and you can have a breakfast sandwich in under 10 minutes!

McDonald’s Egg McMuffin Copycat?

This is not a copycat of the Egg McMuffin, checkout copycat.com for one that looks identical. I’m not a big fan of the Egg McMuffin as the Bacon Egg and Cheese Biscuit is my go-to at McDonald’s. I’ll try my hand at that in the future when I learn how to make my own biscuits.

Can you Reheat Breakfast Sandwiches?

Yes. But this is not a make-ahead recipe, I just make enough for two. I found this really great Make-Ahead Breakfast Sandwiches recipe from House of Nash.
